As an upcoming podcast and series of live events hosted by Tyiana Combs & Kyra Williams, The SIMBY Series is a labor of love; a creative hub dedicated to the thoughts, feelings, and advocacy of Black womxn and girls. In Philly and beyond, we’re telling the stories that need to be told —both industry and community-wide— while having critical and informative talks that are long overdue and guided by art. We’re discussing our work, highlighting our impact, and amplifying our voices — refocusing typically male-centered conversations of Black liberation to include our needs.

Since SIMBY is a nonprofit dedicated to educating Black womxn and girls in the arts while tackling the social issues we face, we’re honoring International Day of the Girl with a virtual screening and discussion of Monique Morris' “Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools.”

You can watch the trailer below.

We can't wait to kick off this series with you on Oct. 11th from 3PM-6PM EST on Zoom!

DISCUSSION COMMENT

"For me...this documentary kind of helped me figure out how I want to reposition...my identity as an administrator and how I want to use my platform now that I'm in this role to support young Black girls.”
