On October 21, 2019, Ruby Johnston and Kyra Williams co-instructed a one-day photo workshop at The School District of Philadelphia's TV Station (PSTV) where they taught ten black girls basic photography skills. These girls were middle school aged student-athletes at the time who competed for the Philly Factor Track Club where Kyra is an assistant coach and photographer for the team. Seeing the joy and hearing the honest feedback from these students about their experience birthed SIMBY into the Black womxn led arts education nonprofit that it is today.
